So I replaced my old style with a new style rudder plate. i wasnt able to get the backling plate as high as I wanted to. Is this going to be an issue? The extension for the rudder is fine when rudder is on doesnt hit the hull. But the plate is about a .5" or so below where it should be I...
So I finished painting today. I thought I would show some pictures with all the updates. now working on the rudder.....and for some more hardware to come in.

So after reading a couple of other threads I wanted to check to see if this is going to cause me problems later. When I repaired the bottom of my boat I did gelcoat over the repairs I did, but then I painted the rest of the boat. Is it going to be a problem that I did paint over the gelcoat...
so I recently painted the bottom of my sunfish. and it appears the paint is scratching very easily. Not sure if I missed a step or did something wrong.
After i did my repairs I redid the gelcoat in those areas. I did not go through the gel coat in other areas. I then primed the surface...
So I took off the coaming on the boat I am working on. And half of the hardware was missing and couple more pulled out when i was taking it off. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to remove the ones that are still in the boat so I can just rivet it back on when I am ready?
Thanks
Has anyone used anything other then the standard Vinylac for their trim? I dont really want to use aluminum, and the Vinylac seems to be rather expensive.
What is the width of a sunfish at the widest point? I would just go out to my garage and measure it myself but I am in San Francisco and live in Chicago so not so much of an option :) But I am doing some research on trailers. If anyone could help me out that would be great.
Thanks
So I started a website of pictures of my repairs. I dont have any captions for anything yet it is a work in progress. Kind of like the boat ;)

So I am almost done redoing the bottom of my boat project. I will soon be moving to the top. I removed all the hardware because I am planning on painting and then wanted to replace all of the 1965 hardware. So the question is. What is the best way to back / reattach hardware? splash guard...
So I have cut away the damaged fiberglass for my repairs. My plan for the back hole is to do cloth patch, woven roven, and then marine tex on top of that. As well as using the marine tex to fill in some other small damage areas. My question and big conern is in the front. I have cut away...
Does it make a huge difference if you use an orbital sander or a belt sander? Also the boat I got I bought specifically to try and repair. The person who had it before me sanded all the way down to the green fiberglass in some places. So I will need to add gelcoat to the top again correct...
So I have to visible holes in the 1962 sunfish that I recently got to work on. I have been reading up on doing fiberglass patching. I know that the one on the bow I can easily reach from behind with a port. The one on the side, is along side the cockpit and dont think I am going to be able to...
I am needing to install 3 inspection ports on my 1962 sunfish to do repairs and new rudder assembly replacement. I am doing one in the bow one behind splash rail and one in the back. Are there specific places as far as measurements that I need to go by to place the ports? Just wanting to know...
So I have been looking for a sunfish that is a little worse for wear so I can fix it up myself. The only one I have been able to find is a mid 1960s model. I was wondering if this would be in anyway more difficult then say one of the later models. From my knowledge the only real difference is...
So I am looking to buy a sunfish that I can learn to do repairs and work on. I have a boat already that I use and since I have never done in fiberglass work or anything of that nature I am wanting a boat that I can more or less fix up, but use as a practice so I do screw up the one I have. My...
