installing new style rudder

So I replaced my old style with a new style rudder plate. i wasnt able to get the backling plate as high as I wanted to. Is this going to be an issue? The extension for the rudder is fine when rudder is on doesnt hit the hull. But the plate is about a .5" or so below where it should be I think. It is still centered left to right though. any thoughts on how much issue this might cause?
