Is it necessary to keep the boom/gaff/sail in some kind of a cover (maybe wrapped in tarp) while trailering the boat? I'm going camping in NH for the weekend and I'm bringing the sunfish. Any suggestions as far as what works well?

Should the gooseneck be clamped onto the boom so that it cannot move, or can there be some play? What is its recommended position?
Also, what can be done to make sure that the halyard does not slide up on the gaff.

Does the conversion involve just removing the old brass hardware and attaching the bracket to the transom? If so, what's the most economical way of getting the new style rudder/hardware?
