    Inspection port install.

Have an inspection port in hand, have read the instructions on line and am ready to do the deed. However, what's the fastener of choice, screws or rivets? If screws, are they just self threading into the fiberglass? Seems rather frail, but then again its not a load bearing structure....

    Dry sail/wet sail

For the past month, I've been posting all kinds of newbie questions about my sunfish, set up, rigging, etc. Last night I just gathered everything up, put it in the water and sailed. Lo and behold, it all makes sense, and many of my questions I can now see could have been answered by getting...

    Low boom/high boom

What determines the height of the boom over the deck? Is it halyard position? do you do that independent of the gooseneck? It would seem you would always need the gaff hoisted snug (all the way up) against the mast. Is that true? My fish is set up to where if I rig it as I got it, the...

cleat positions for outhaul and cunningham

I saw a site in which the author stated emphatically that the cleats for these sail adjustments go on the port side of the boom. Is there a sailing reason for that? A racing reason? Style reason? Peer pressure?

micro block for traveler/mainsheet set up

Does it matter how the block is attached to the sheet? I guess, one easy way would be to tie a bowline. Was considering a more "hardware-ish" type solution, something like block: metal ring: bowline. Just seems that even if you step down to a racing sheet at 1/4" diameter, it would be tight...

The help here has been great but I have some more questions!

So here goes with a few more from a newbie: 1. I've decided to go with the new style traveler and replace the three loop one on my '82. Can you specify a micro block to use with this set up, or a vendor who, if I call, will know which one is used for this set up? 2. Looking to add a...

Talk to me about the traveler

My '82 has a wire traveler with a loop in the middle to clip the mainsheet. this would seem to allow essentially no traveler function. On some parts lists I see rope travelers listed, and traveler blocks. So which is it, the wire or rope w/block? Which is class legal? If rope w/block, how is...

replacing stock main swivel w/cam cleat

My "new" 82 model has the standard (I believe) swivel base with bullseye and cam cleat for the mainsheet. Would like to replace with a harken hexratchet or equivalent. Is there a base w/eye that will fit over the swivel base? Is this as easy as I'd like it to be, i.e. remove the swivel/cam...

Just got my new sunfish home

If it were a motorcycle, we'd call it a basket case because of all the parts in a basket. I have everything identified, not that much really, but have a really stupid question that, after 30 years of sailing, none in a sunfish, I have to ask: How do you attach and where do you attach the...

    tips on replacing coaming

I'm new here, just got my '82 yesterday. The coaming was broken completely through though still attached, and the owner had a brand new one that came in the deal. It looks like there are pop rivets that need to be drilled out, then hopefully pop rivet new one back in place. Does that sound...
