Wet sanding of boards

Reading the class rules I see it allows sharpening on the trailing edge of the centerboard and rudder to 0.100m in from the aft edge..or something along these lines. It also mentions blades may be refinished as long as the shape charateristics of the boards is not changed.

My questions is...Are you allowed to give the boards a light wet sanding. The rule seems a bit vague to me and I am not sure if wet sanding falls under refinishing and I wouldnt really consider it sharpening.

Does anyone have an answer on this? I have never been to a major regatta so I dont know how a the measurers interpret this.

Not to discourage you, but I spent a weekend one time, wet sanding and wet sanding. The boards were AMAZING. So smooth, so nice. I think I started at 400 grit and ended up at 1200 grit to see how nice they could become.

On the second day of racing with them, I hit some sand/pebbly ground by a spit in the river and BAM, my weekend of work was gone!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr
