sail finish

I bought two used sails and have one. A friend who owns a custom car upolstery shop is going to make a "good" one of the three. My question is: one of the three is soft and supple. The other two have what appears to be a finish (crinkly) on them. Are they different fabrics or does the soft one have the finish worn off?

The soft sail has been weathered (mostly sun) and the resin that the dacron cloth is finished with has broken down. The crackly sail is less worn and probably has better shape and a longer life span than the soft sail. For the most part, soft is bad and crinkly/crackly is better.
