Rudder Spring pin

I just purchased a new rudder (plastic) for my 2002 Sunfish. When I insert the pin that receives the springs to assist when tilting the rudder, I see that only the two springs when attached, hold the pin in place. My question is, do I need to apply silicone or do something else when sliding the pin in or is this just how it works. Thinking that if one of the springs break I'll loose the pin.

Appreciate any advice you might have on this.

I had the opposite problem. The hole was not big enough to fit the pin. When I had the wooden blade the pin would move a little bit.

The pin should fit snugly in the hole, but even if it moves around a little, the tension of the springs will hold it in place. No glue or goop of any kind should be necessary.
