just purchased used sunfish and have rigging question.one video shows boom few feet above deck. others show it approx six inches above deck. which is better or more correct? thanks.

Generally recreational sailors will have it set higher for better vision, while racers set it lower. It's adjusted by where the halyard is tied to the upper spar (tie it lower on the spar to set the sail higher, and lower to raise the boom). Additionally, where the gooseneck is set on the boom will impact the height of the boom off the deck. You can take a look at rigging guidelines for suggested heights for different conditions. It's easy to change, so play with it and see what's comfortable for you. (Although "a few feet above the deck" - if it's that high at the mast, is awfully high. )

whether or not you have a window in the sail makes a difference, too. for recreational sailing, without a sail window, I would raise it up a little more off the deck to keep from straining your back/neck to look under the sail. but if you have a window, I would set it lower like Andy mentioned above.
