Re-attaching a loose foam block

I have looked at the KB and see how to replace foam blocks but all I want to do is reattach one. I'm sure an inspection port will be needed, got that. But has anyone done this before? What were the pitfalls? Thanks, Win ever.

It's actually pretty easy to reattach a block. You'll have to cut an inspection port (probably 2) positioned so that you can reach most, if not all of the block. You'll also need to get some expanding insulating foam from Home Depot. Then simply place the block, and spray the foam along the places where the foam that the boat are in contact. Try not to get underneath the foam, because the expansion could damage the boat. It will come out of the can in a fairly small string, but don't let that fool you. It will expand quickly to about 5-10 times its original size.

Good Luck

I did this repair last summer - I used the guide put together at Wind Line Sails, it is very good: http://www.windline.net/project3.htm
there is also a really good guide by John Howard at the Yahoo Sunfish Sailor Group, it’s in the “Files” section, titled “Block_Reset” by John Howard, and it’s a “fantastic photo essay to accompany the Wind Line Sails repair sheet”.

Most of the recommendations I have seen though are to avoid the "great stuff" type foam you'd find at Home Depot/Lowe's, as it is not formulated to get wet, and will absorb water. I bought the 2-part expanding foam kit, 4-lb density from US Composites (http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html).

I went into more detail here: http://my2fish.wordpress.com/2010/08/16/foam-block-reset/
