Probably because design, marketing, testing, etc. all cost time and money. Whereas, using an established market requires no such costs or efforts or risk - so it's easy risk free profit.Rather than making replica boats, why don't you develop your own class, design it, build it, market it, etc.
Here in Brazil we have to pay 120% taxes on import duties, not to mention that there are NO new boats to buy.Laser availability in South America has been a problem for a number of years. This is probably the only way they can get a boat to sail that is like it...
Alex: we manufacture dollies and practice laser spars in Argentina and export them to USA from 2008. I do not know if there are import duties in Mercosur. If it is of you interest please contact us. www.jotagsa.comHere in Brazil we have to pay 120% taxes on import duties, not to mention that there are NO new boats to buy.
Also, LP does not help the dealer forcing him to buy a full container load and a complete boat, not only the hull! A freaking Joke !
Solution: Brazilians are now building their own copy of a Laser hull !
The same freaking 120% taxes... Boats are considered "Luxury" items in this freaking Communist country !Alex: we manufacture dollies and practice laser spars in Argentina and export them to USA from 2008. Has happened elsewhere, too.LP does not help the dealer forcing him to buy a full container load and a complete boat, not only the hull!
Oh yes... .NOvember.. .anything can happen !Has happened elsewhere, too.
The nearly-worldwide monopoly of LP is actually under scrutiny by World Sailing, as it quite possibly breaks international antitrust laws. We'll hear more about this in a couple of months, at the WS annual meeting.
