I used 3M Cleaner & Wax this weekend on my boat. It has a light compound and wax in it. When I was buffing this stuff on, a dary grey color liquid started coming up. Is that just the dirt and grime of 39 years (my boat is a 72).
Weird. In the future, first wash the hull with soap and warm water and then coat the hull with regulr household bleach (maybe cut 50/50 with water or 100% if your hull is really grimey - be sure to wear gloves and eye protection.) Rinse with lots of water, let dry completely and then use the 3M Cleraner and Wax. The bleach will remove any organic matter and that is what I think you saw coming out of the gelcoat when you used the 3M product.
