I have a 1979 sunfish and the pintle fell out intact luckily before I was on the water. It does not have a hole only a shallow ridge 2/3 ds up the bolt. Will the new kits with the hole fit my rudder or do I need to find a lock washer for the one I have.thank you. btw the ones with the hole also...
my 1979 sunfish weighs 138 lbs.it was purchased used 3 yrs ago with major holes that I repaired and I put a port in the bow and by the coaming.Should I put another port in aft and hope that that will air out the hull more or is this the best I can expect.Ihave never see water in the hull when I...
I have a 1979 sunfish sail that is so soft its silky.Am I losing efficiency in my sail because of this or am I gaining power. Also is it worthwhile purchasing a new sail when this happens.
I sail on a shallow lake that just got shallower with recent dam reconstruction so I now use a 30 inch daggerboard and have absolutly no trouble tacking ,feels like no difference from my 40 inch board and now safer for my hull. Am I missing something in performance or speed, thanks.
can someone please answer these questions.
1...if on a reach will you go faster with a 29 inch daggerboard or a 39 inch?
2..will your sunfish be more stable in higher wind and less likely to capsize with a longer daggerboard ?
thanks.
I have dampness inside my sunfish after sailing but no visible water.does condensation occur inside the hulls on hot days?It has been over 85 the past 5 days here in Pennsylvania.thank you.
I made a new spar for 50 $ .....went to the metal supply house and they had the exact specs and 6061 aluminum ,got 2 pieces about 7 ft long added a 1 3/8 splice riveted them together and was done.as good as a 13ft 8 inch full size spar.
the alloy is exactly the same...yes 6061...the wall thickness is exactly the same .065.....also pop riveting would be a simple way to connect.also I am not a racer so the legality of it all wouldnt matter. also it is like trying to find lost treasure to find used spars and if i do are they in...
I am thinking of making my own upper spar with 6061 aluminum 1 1/2 0d ,by ordering two pieces of 7 foot lenghts and having an inner sleeve 1 3/8 id to connect them both this would save over 200 dollars due to the cost of sending a 164 inch spar in the mail, and 7 foot lenghts are about 25...
Thank you so much for that reply. In fact I did see that chain link pipe in the store. I believe the size is 1 3/8 ....I was just concerned it if it would fit.
I have a bent upper spar that starts from where the halyard is tied and because of the high cost of shipping want to repair it by sliding a foot length piece of aluminum pipe over the area ,so it acts as a supportive sleeve.does anyone know if this is feasible?seems it would also make it stronger.
