Greetings, I've posted this before:
A different and in my opinion easier way to do the air test: Keep the drain plug screwed in, put a piece of electrical or duct tape over the weep hole and push a ball stem on a bike pump (like the kind you blow balls up with) right through the tape. The...
The replacement pin that I got had both the c-clip groove and a cotter pin hole. The clip looked a bit thin so I went with the SS cotter pin only and have had no problems.
I just used 100% clear silicone caulk between the bailer and the hull. It's lasted 9 years and still holding. When I put it on, I taped the bailer where I wanted it, then masked the outline of it so the caulk that oozes doesn't get on the hull. That also gives you an idea where to keep it as it...
Had this happen to me on my old boat. The stern came so far up that the rudder was completely out of the water and the boat was at about a 30 degree angle. Standing on the front wall of the cockpit, I dove under the sail before the boat came down and the tiller extension went right through the...
If you do replace your bailer with the new plastic one, you have one option that can save you headaches down the road. The new bailer comes with a rubber "O" ring that goes against the hull. Unfortunately it makes the bailer sit about 1/16" away from the hull and makes a fantastic weed catcher...
Tie the spars together then hoist them with the halyard so they are 3 feet or so above the deck. Secure the end of the spars the the stern with a bungee. Use the now suspended spars as the peak of your tent. Make an appointment with your chiropractor.
Another great way to tie them: Tie them tight to the spar with square or similar knot, then pull on the loop with pliers to tighten knot. Perfect ties every time.
I went four feet up from the bottom. The higher it is, the less halyard stretch from the top of the mast. Too low may interfere with the gooseneck if you want to sail recreationally. Make sure it lines up with the hole in the mast cap so the halyard comes straight down to the cleat. I used a...
I have seen several different ones. I and many others use the Harken model HO19. It has a 10:1 holding strength and can be turned off to spin freely with a simple slide switch on the side. A spring under it hold it upright. $53.47 from APS. Makes a big difference.
