What is needed for the vang/cunningham/outhaul rules?

Hi, I just bought a older laser. It has been in storage for the last ten years, and never raced. I was just wondering if anyone could give me a list of the parts that are needed to do the upgrade. I would really like to know if I can buy all the parts at West Marine.

On another note what is every bodies favorite varnishes? What is easiest to use, cheapest, longest lasting?

I don't think any varnishes last significantly longer than any other. I used that expensive synthetic stuff once (can't remember what it's called now) and it wasn't one bit better... so I'd just use whatever "spar varnish" you find at your local hardware store

ETA: The stuff I was referring to was Cetol... waste of $$ IMO

The blocks and hardware are expensive. We just refit several lasors at a place I work with blocks from West Marine and it was cheaper ONLY because of the descount we get. I believe if you were to price it out everything would come out in the wash. I also don't believe the west marine dinghy vang is class legal? I could be wrong but I believe there is a few differences.

I wasn't planning on buying the west dinghy vang, I was just wondering if I could get the parts to upgrade that way I don't have to spend $243 on buying the everything from my local laser parts place.

If you use your existing vang, you can legally add harken bullet blocks to increase the purchase four-fold from your current 3 to 1 to 12 to 1. That's fairly inexpensive.

For the cunningham and outhaul upgrate, you must buy the deck plate and cleats (the expensive parts) from a laser dealer, they're the only ones who sell the parts you need. After that, again, it's bullet blocks and line.

Could you point me in the right direction for diagrams of how to rig the four-fold 3 to 1 (12 to 1)?

Thanks (and virtual pizza!) for any help,

Al.

We do have all the blocks and lines to set up the upgraded outhaul and cunningham legally except for the double cam cleat base and double pad eye at the mast base.

We do have our own double pad eye in production now and will also have the double cam cleat base for next year.

Double pad eye base is here;

They will not be class legal as they are not builder supplied.

All the legal Harken blocks are here;

The lines are here;
