Upwind sail trim

Getting back into the Laser after 25 years the biggest change is being able to adjust things while sailing. On the Rooster site I read that for light winds I've got lots of vang and blocks eight inches apart, then for medium winds the blocks are together and no vang.

I understand both but there is a bit in the middle, especially sailing inland, where the conditions are changing from light to medium. Do I first pull the blocks together, then release the vang in stages [close the leach first] or slacken the vang off with the blocks at eight inches, then when the vang is off start to tighten the sheet [unflatten the sail first]?

Same again as the wind gets too strong. Do I start by bending the mast [vang] or by bringing the draft forward [cunningham]?

It used to be such a simple boat. Thanks in advance, Andrew

Hallo Rob B,

It's the full rig for now. [Though at 48 years and 69 kilos it may not be for long!]
