Traveling with a Laser

I just got a Laser and I have seen people put it on their car top which i can do too because I have a suburban. But I was wondering what to do with the mast and I don't want to put it in the car. Can i tie it down to the top and if so how?
 
having had a suburban, your spars will fit in a suburban. it gets a little crowded up on the dash. if you own a spar bag (it holds the bottom sect, top sect, and boom) you should be able to lash the bag along the side of the boat, after you've tied it down. i would not suggest attaching it to the "top", which would be your hull bottom. for $100 the spar bag is a pretty good investment, if no bag try to lash all 3 spars together. then lash that to the side of the boat (kind of between the top of car and the hull deck).
 
Thule makes spar partners which you can just slip in and tie off. I use them for the upper and boom then put the lower in the car.
