Trailer modification

I have seen previous posts advising the Harbor Freight utility trailer can easily be modified for Sunfish. Is it advisable to extend the tongue longer? I have capability of welding an extension. I realize that with the longer tongue, a bow connect would also need to be put on the trailer.

longet tounge would be great anytime as it will make it easier to backup the trailer.

When launching at a sandy area, I've wished for an "extendable" trailer tongue to keep the "driven" tires on a firm surface. Why not find a larger diameter tubing and splice it into the existing tongue? Holes drilled through in selected places would allow pins to "stretch" the trailer to whatever length you'd need.
