Tiller/Rudder cleat or holder?

To free up a hand and/or paddle straight what do yall use to keep the tiller straight? A bungee across? Does that work well? Anybody mount a fairlead and cam cleat (small) directly under the tiller handle? With a short piece of rope to cleat? Good or bad idea?

Other ways to keep the rudder straight without holding it and easy release?

I'm able to sit on my tiller extension and use it to free up a hand occasionally.

Yeah, me too. This is part of my dock launch issue. Just trying to reduce the tasks in heavy air launch from dock. I guess a quick release for the tiller (like using my rump) would be more reliable than a cleat that could be problematic if it was a release/jam issue.

Regarding the "heavy air launch" would getting started earlier in the day help?

Winds in my location pick up at 8 a.m. and increase until 11:32-AM, when they typically drop to nothing (in summer).
