sunfish clam cleats

I am trying to add the clam cleats that are on the sunfish pro. I can see them on the pictures but I could use more precise location....eg.... under the 5 sailring from the end of the boom etc..

I know there are two. It appears on is directly under the sail and one is at a 45 degree from the sail .

thanks,

This depends on the sail you are using. Class sails differ from recreational sails

Put the sail on. Adjust so that is it a little full (not too loose). Mark the two spots you like--a midpoint between two rings. Tighten up the sail and do that again. Tighten the clue line for the boom and tighten the leach by pulling down on the first grommet above the tack for the gaff--as you would for a Cunningham. Put your clam cleat between those pairs of marks.

As far as the relative position on the boom--that is a matter of preference. One underneath will work and one on the side. Put the one underneath farther forward of the two

I tie a bloodknot in the tail to make it easy to grasp.

The website of 8 time Sunfish World Champion, Eduardo Cordero has the layout measurements.

Found in: Eduardo’s set up procedure to rig a sunfish
- Locate Outhaul Cleat on starboard side of the boom at 64” (from the front of cleat to where the front end cap meets the spar.)
- Locate Cunningham cleat on bottom of the boom at 41” (from the front of the cleat to where front the end cap meets the spar.)
