Does anyone have experience or tips removing black permanent marker stenciled numbers from a sail?

At work we use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to remove permanent marker from polyester and other technical films, but these are neither woven nor resin-coated. I'll try a little bit on some sailcloth and see what it does. Hard to predict if heavy marker left for many years on sailcloth will remove cleanly.

I left the sample out in wind and sun for a few hours.
The alcohol only removed some of the ink, the rest seems there for the long haul.
