Sail Size

Sunny Durban
I'm new to sailing and am based in Durban, South Africa. The Scouts, where I am the Cub Pack leader, have an old Sunfish and I need to have a new sail made locally. What are the dimensions of a new sail? The one I have is 414cm along the spars and 450cm across the open span. Can I still use this battle weary sail as a template? Thx, Bart

i replied to this yesterday but for some reason it's not showing up. here are the dimensions you asked for.

Luff 13'4"
Foot 13'4"
Leech 14'4"
the Sunfish requires 28 mast hoops

Thanks. I thought the response would be in feet and inches.
I have done my conversions and see that my old sail is very stretched, some 10cm (4 inches) along all three sides. I'll post a pic of the new sail, when it arrives. Thx Bart

New Sail Pic.

My New sail has arrived.
I had it made by a Microlight builder who sewed it using the condemned wing from a Microlight here in Durban.

That came out nicely. Interesting that there are Sunfish everywhere it seems. wonder how that one ended up in South Africa!? BB
