when cutting out the templates from the base 8's, how do you do the four? can the tops of the 4 be disconnected(unlike the one in this sentence)? or do they have to be connected? Just trying to do it right, thanks.

FWIW: Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, I see closed fours ( 4) among all those laser at the top of that website page.

You're looking at the euro style numbers with the closed 4s. Look at the 4s on the digital 8 style numbers... they have open 4s.

well the instructions display 4s with closed tops, but don't show how to do it. And they are the "euro" numbers, but they are digital, so it's confusing. I'm having at the closed-top fours, its a bunch of puzzle pieces.
if you come across some info on the how-to, you may save me from doing some unnecessary geometry on a monday afternoon.

ugh, I dislike "geometry" almost as much as I dislike calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra!

Some confusion about nomenclature, I guess.

Euro style numbers are ready to be put on the sail; no cutting required (the 4 will be closed as shown here).

A 'four' cut from a digital 'eight' will be open at the top.

And the picture on the ILCA website shows boats with either style.
