Have an old fiberglass 1962 circa "Sailfish" with the original sail. My understanding is that the old Sailfish sails are somewhat smaller than the Sunfish, even though the mast/spars are similar. My question, will a standard Sunfish sail overpower this old sailboard as a replacement? Thanks, Rick

Rick,

The short answer is, today’s Sunfish sail should work just fine for you.

The first Sailfish was called the “Standard” model. It was a wood hull that came out in 1945, length 11' - 7½", sail area: 65 sq ft. By 1949 a larger wood hull version called the Super Sailfish was also available, length 13' - 7", sail area 75 sq ft (same size as today’s Sunfish sail). In 1959 the fiberglass Super Sailfish MK II you have was introduced in basically the same size as the earlier wood hull Super Sailfish, length 13' - 7", sail area 75 sq ft. So, no overpower issue for your fiberglass Mark II model, only a good chance a new sail will perform better.
