Rub Rail

I need to replace my cracked rub rail on a ten year old boat.
Where do I buy one and how do I attached it?
Thanks

I don't know where to purchase one for the Capri, but I bought one for my Catalina 22 from http://catalinadirect.com -- My 22 uses the narrow rub rail, while some other models require the wide rub rail. You could measure yours on the Capri and see if it would match the width of the 22. Give them a call and ask, or check on their forum. I've heard good responses from people that have phoned Catalina Direct.

When you find one and want to apply, don't get in a rush. Wait for a warm day. I tried to put my new one on during a cool afternoon, after soaking in warm water for a while. I tried using a rubber mallet, it was very difficult and I even cracked the new rub rail a little. The warm water doesn't work so well, because the rub rail cools off pretty quick.

I waited a few days longer for a warm day, and let the rub rail sit on top of my hot driveway for a while. Then, I could just press it very easily. I think I used my fingers for a while until they got tired. I found a wide putty knife - maybe 5-6" worked well, a narrow putty knife was too small and would split the rubber in places.

On my big boat, I initially tried soaking the rail in soapy water, and tried pulling the rub rail through the channel. I made it about 6 feet before the friction stopped all forward progress. I found pressing it in the easiest way to go.

good luck
