I am interested in buying a new race sail. Is Team Vanguard the only place to order legal race sail for a sunfish? I tried to go to Northsail but refered me to Team Vanguard.
Second question on mounting a cleat to the mast to tie off the mainsheet , what is the best way to attached the cleat? Do you use self tapping stainless steel screws?
Thanks for any suggestions.

In the rule book you received with your Class membership, paragraph 3.6 states Sail. The sail shall be supplied only by the Builder. The builder in this case is Team Vanguard ( now LaserPerformance ) and all Class Approved equipment is purchased through its dealers. North is the sail maker but not an authorized dealer outlet. The LP web page has a dealer finder you can use to locate one near you or one who sells on-line. If you've misplaced your copy of the Class One Design Rules, they are also posted at the Class web site ( http://www.sunfishclass.org ) in this file ( http://www.sunfishclass.org/ISCA_CLASS_RULES_10052006.pdf )

Self tapping stainless steel screws have worked for me.

I guess you meant halyard, rather than mainsheet?

Anyway, embed the screws in (some kind of) marine sealant.

I found a kit they use to repair, believe it or not Hobie 16 mast cleats, that I use exclusively now for mast cleats. It comes with a very nice composite cleat, 1/4" pop rivets with waterproofing cups

Note that the mast cleat has rules surrounding it's placement. See: http://www.sunfishclass.org/ISCA_CLASS_RULES_10052006.pdf

Section: 3.5.9

One cleat of any type may be installed on the mast not more than four (4‟) feet from the base, for cleating the line used to tie the „Jens Rig‟ (Ref. Rule 3.7.3). It may also be used to cleat the halyard. If utilized, there must be some means to securely attach the rig to the hull using the end of the halyard.
