Quick release

To install a quick release on a gooseneck, does the screw fitting need to be drilled out for to be installed? I buy things to make sailing easier, but they come with no instructions on how to install them. Any help would be great. Anyone in North Carolina sailing yet?

If your gooseneck used a screw for the boom pinch bolt some quick release bolts require the screw treads in the gooseneck be drill to open the diameter. My last one only needed about 1/3 of the thread height removed for the new bolt to slip through.
