pvc pipe size

What size PVC or plastic pipe do you folks use to store mast and spars over winter or traveling?
And what do you do with gooseneck? remove it so a smaller pipe can be used?
would like to know length and diameter of pipe.

Spars are 13'9" so a 16 foot piece would work. Other tips I have read is to drill holes in the bottom of the pipe so air can circulate as you drive home and dry the sail a bit. I cant imagine leaving a wet sail in there though.
