Interesting find! But I wouldn't pay $695 for it (asking price). The owner, bless his conscience, points out several problems.

No doubt there are hopes nostalgia will be valued over function. Nonetheless, these were only simple tack & glue beach boats, not exactly Mystic Seaport Museum pieces. Still, it would make a great conversation piece for some Sunfish shop.

The earliest Sailfish were built from plans, not a kit (the uniformity of the kit came later) so there was home-builder latitude in construction. This boat appears to have many Sailfish characteristics, but there are also a few rogue elements. Anyone bidding on an original '40s Sailfish needs to have done their homework well.

That is a more realistic asking price than others I've seen, but the final word still lies with the buyer since they determine actual market value ... not the seller.
