If you had to get one of the new blocks, instead of shelling out all $98 what would be the best block to buy

While not having to tape is nice (but frankly a good tape job should last until the blocks need replacing) , there is a bit of grousing that the new trav blocks are too low friction and ride up the trav. towards centerline when you want them right out at the corner fairlead.

The boom blocks seem to be the general concensus. I have the full set on my boat and yes they do have a tendancy to ride up the traveller if it is not tight enough.
There was also a question mark over the durability of the traveller blocks, I have had no problems with mine (have had them on since they were released) but some people reported them breaking.
