Has anyone tried shortening a Standard lower mast section into a Radial lower mast section? Any advice...
Thanks,

It won't work properly. The Radial lower is made from a thinner material to make it "bendier," so that it gives in high winds to spill off power.

Yeah, I think a sawed off standard mast with a radial sail might be harder to sail in a breeze than a proper standard rig. The proper standard rig will bend a little, but the franken-Radial won't bend at all.

Unless you need a class legal section, it works. We had one in the family for 10 years before we needed a class legal one for junior sailing...

It does bend, just not as much as the softer, legal section.

Do Radial lower mast sections ever wear out? Is there a difference between a new one and one that is 10 years old?

If you live around salt water...Yes

ON fresh water?? Unless it is bent it is ever so slightly better than new and improving with each use.
In fact, the only way to win races with it is to go sail it some more.

Like for instance you could sail here>>>
