Line in Vanguard Outhaul / Cunningham upgrade

What is the skinny pink line that is supplied in the Vanguard cunningham / outhaul upgrade? Amsteel, maybe? Can it be eye-spliced?

Also, can you eye-splice Maffioli Swiftcord?

From my first-hand observation, I'd guess not. APS says you can't, but Layline is apparently using it in tapered spinnaker sheets:

FWIW, I think the stuff is great. I use if for the tails of both my cunningham and outhaul. Runs through small blocks (Harken Micro and 16mm) great, cleats solidly, and it feels great in your hand. I can't wait to replace the stiff line in the 5:1 part of my Harken vang with Swiftcord.

Cheers,

To answer this question, this primary line is 1/8" or 3mm Spectron 12.

I just got a piece of the Swiftcord and sailed yesterday with it as the tail on my vang -- it is really lovely stuff.

Fiddling with the line now that I've actually seen it in person, I can't imagine it would eye-splice -- It looks like the fiber is quite bulky (maybe that's why it's so soft and nice in the hand) and there isn't a lot of room inside into which you could tuck the tail.

I don't really like the Swiftcord. I've never actually had it on my boat, but all my teammates have it. After a season or two, it seems to get old and bumpy and doesn't run through the blocks as well as the smooth new line that comes standard with the Vanguard package. For example, my buddy has had the same swiftcord that came with his '02 boat and, granted it has had much use, by now is very bumpy. I suppose with as much as my teammates and I use our boat, we'd need to replace it every season.

Anyone had similar experiences?

Exactly my thought. It would be interesting to see how the Layline riggers splice it. In my experience they're some of the best, so whatever they do is probably not within the capabilities of an average Laser sailor...
