Least expensive option for universal style tiller extension?

I have the old style wood tiller extension. What is the least expensive option for the newer universal style tiller extension?

Intensity sells a ready to go stick with universal for $53, or just buy this Allen Replacement Universal Joint (intensitysails.com) and use an old ski pole for the stick (I have also heard of using a golf club shaft but I am not sure if that is really viable.
