Leach Question

Could someone explain what it means to keep the leach open and to keep the leach tight. What controls the leach on a SF? Why is it important to have a tight or loose leach?

It is also controlled by:
- how tightly you tie down the tie-downs at the head and outhaul of the sail
- if you tie a vang how tightly you tie the vang

As to the effect of a tight or loose leach, I have to defer to the experts since I don't know for sure.
