Is the only differance between standard and radial lower mast sections the lengh if so can I cut my standard lower section, buy a radial sail and go sailing?

It is the same top section so wouldn't thicker not be better? I don't see why it would not work.

The Radial lower section is bendier so it spills wind. It gives a different sail shape, and it wouldn't act right with a stiffer section.
Because it's illegal.
