Laser Questions - New owner

Thanks in advance for any help with my questions. I just purchased my first Laser... The s/n on the back is ZIDB4949M84F. Am I correct in thinking this is an '84 Laser? The radial sail that came with the boat does not have a number on it. How do I determine what the sail number should be if I decide to get a standard sail to race?
When I place the mast in the boat there is a lot of 'play' around the mast and the hole for the mast is more oval than round (hole size is 2 5/8 X 2 7/8) There does not seem to be any wear on the mast hole and it does not look like it's been repaired in any way. Any suggestions on what to do to correct this extra space around the mast?
The bottom looks to be in very good shape except for 15 - 20 dime size blisters that are around the centerboard slot. Any suggestions on how this may have happened and if it could get worse?
Thanks, TNSailing

hi m8 just to answere your questions not sure about age someone will post a reply with link to work out age of laser, but other questions:- a standard to race? depending on the wind and your body weight is to what rig you sgould sail, if you pretty light <11 stone then a radial sail but over 11 stone then its a full rig and a radial for those megga windy days (although can sail a radial anyway just wont be hiking much).

the mast pot is meant to have play so the mast goes forward downwind so this is normal and it is oval shaped there should not be much play left to right.

depends if the blisters have water in? if so i would open em up and get a repair kit form laser direct! other wise probably leave them, very much doubt it is osmosis unless you have one of those trolly/ dolly that fits to the hull and keeps water in contact with the hull, then it could be osmosis but even then dont worry about it!

Thanks for the helpful answers... Do most racers just pick the size sail they want to use (if they have that option) just prior to the start of the first race? The radial sail I have does not have a number on it... will I have to have one sewn on to race? Is there a way to determine what the sail number of the boat should be?
Thanks,

Sail number can be obtained from the hull serial.
http://www.laserforum.org/know/index.php?title=Serial_(Hull)_Number

For your circa '84 boat;
ZIDB4949M84F
ZID = Laser International (Ontario 1984-1991) Reincarnation of original Laser builder. (Also known as Performance Sailcraft Canada.)
B4949 = sail number 114949

You will need sail numbers if you intend to race and they are simply stuck on --> http://www.westcoastsailing.net/default/boat-parts/laser/sails/12-inch-digital-8-sail-numbers.html

Make sure you read the class rules to determine exactly where to position them.
