Hello all,
These "replica" sails are showing up on Ebay.
The problem is that they have the Laser insignia.
They claim to be identical to class sails
but are for recreation and training.
Doesn't the class own the trademark?
How are they getting away with this?
The Class doesn't own the trademark; one of Rastegar's companies does.
In due time, a (Rastegar) lawyer will send a threatening letter to this Chinese sailmaker, who may or may not care.
I also noticed that the picture on the listing appears to show the button and the laser label.
So they can't be bothered to show their actual sail.
Don't other replica sails also have the laser emblem? Possibly a different colour though
The original "practice" version of the Mk II full sail had a blue Laser logo. However it was marketed by LP, so no trademark issues. Still not class legal.
Yes on further web browsing not seen laser symbol on practice sails. Sure I have seen them on non official sails at my club in Thailand. Perhaps people adding them theirselves.
Because the people who sail lasers permit. If no one purchased it, there would be no market and no fakes. We all know the sources of class legal equipment.
