Just Bought a Laser 2, soft deck repair

I just purchased an 82 Laser 2 and I noticed something about the deck.
I'm used to sailing a laser of the same vintage and I noticed that my laser 2's deck has much more give to it. For example, when I press down on it I can notice it's not as hard of a plastic as the Laser.
Is this something that is supposed to be the case or is there something wrong with the boat?
If there is something wrong with the boat, how would I go about fixing it?

Re: Just Bought a Laser 2 Have a Question

What you are referring to is a 'soft spot'. From what I've observed on 2 different Laser 2 hulls, soft spots are common on the deck near the skipper and crew, atleast on older boats (84' from my experience). If you want to race, soft spots aren't the best, but otherwise they're ok as long as it doesn't feel like your hand can push through it.

The NA class site has good information, and also a friendly site/class manager.(http://laser2.est.org/) Also, the egroup is helpful. (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NALaser2/)

Have fun with your L2, and welcome to a great boat.

Re: Just Bought a Laser 2 Have a Question

I've had a couple of Lasers and I recently restored an old Laser 2. My experience was just the opposite of yours - My (1979) Laser 2's deck is solid as a rock and my Laser is the soft one.

I guess it varies from boat to boat.

Sailed my Laser 2 for the first time last weekend and had a blast. Great boat!

Re: Just Bought a Laser 2 Have a Question

If I wanted to make a deck harder, do you know how I would go about doing it?

Re: Just Bought a Laser 2 Have a Question

If your boat has inspection ports, you simply open one of them and throw in a couple of Viagras. Plan to sail soon thereafter, as this is only a temporary fix.

Seriously, I don't know.
