1973 AMF Sunfish " BARBARA "
Wimberley TX Thrift Store Find.
Paid $150 w/ trailer..... no sail, no center board
Brought her home and cleaned her up with JoMax, and pressure washer. Hull is in decent shape. Some previous repairs, nothing bigger than an inch or two. Found the mast was slightly bent.
Ordered a sail from Intensity, has yet to arrive.
Picked up mast, spars, rudder, and Center board from a CL up in Austin, Tx for $250
Have some minor rigging to do still, new blocks, etc.
Hope to have her up and flying in a couple of weeks out on Canyon Lake.
Had been sitting on a XL "Mans Ruin" vinyl sticker and she fit just right.
The splashrail and rounded edges indicate that this boat is a non-identical twin of the Sunfish... Should be the same as far as fun factor is concerned.
AMF Windflite most likely; also consider the AMFlite.
Just search this forum; there are some threads on these boats. You can also search the Files section on the Yahoo!Groups Sunfish site (you need to sign in; but no one will bite you). Once you are there, also peruse the photo section.
The almighty Google could be of help as well.
Does your hull have grab rails? Does your hull have a hiking strap that runs across the footwell?
That looks like a Windflite we found, used same hardware as Sunfish. You'll like the rounded edge and the in hull holes for the bowline and bridle. There was probably a piece of teak screwed to the splashrail originally. I was told these were sold through Sears.
