Installing new rudder

i just got a newly made rudder (wood section) and need to remove the hardware from my old rudder and install it on the new one. Are there any tricks that I should know about removing the old hardware and also any tricks/tips to install it (i.e. is adhesive needed on the new rudder).

Thanks! I've got to get this darn thing in the water this weekend before the summer is over!!
 
I had a problem with the spring installation until someone told me to use a thin piece of strong nylon cord to stretch the spring over its post. Worked like a charm.
