Illinois appears to be the only state in the Midwest that requires boat trailers - even for small craft - to have a VIN and title. This means for many trailers bought from out of state, the new owner needs to go through the process of having it appraised, insured, and stamped with a VIN number to get an “insured title.”
It seems harder and harder each year to find shops or vendors who can appraise boat trailers, or insurance companies who understand how to insure it for the purposes of these insured titles.
Anyone know of any appraising vendors in the Chicagoland area? Any insurance companies recommended for the know-how to facilitate the state’s requirements?
