Hull Drain

Any reason why I should not install a hull drain in the lower rear area of the transom on my 1976 Sunfish as on a Laser? Will it drain well or are there blocks preventing it?

Some bedding foam "overage" may block the path.

Persons of smaller physique will find checking for water more difficult. Even you will no longer be able to tell how much is draining under some circumstances.

Are you finding water gets into the hull now?

Current Laser hulls are pretty 'empty', except for the cubitainers, and drain well. Sunfishes have all these foam partitions (structural supports) and, as Wayne already indicated, won't drain so readily from the stern. The drain located on the starboard side of the Sunfish actually works pretty well if the boat is leaned just right.
