How to fix a chipped daggerboard

Hey there guys! I have a quite massive chip on the trailing edge of my daggerboard, of course its JUST below the daggerboard well, so its in the water while going upwind. Its about the size of 2 quarters put together. I was thinking I could fix it with some MarineTex and some small nails hammered into the foam to act as support. Has anyone run into this problem before?
Thanks!

Start with http://schrothfiberglass.com/index.html There's much to learn there.

Then search on daggerboard repair on this forum. I seem to remember it was about Sunfish, not Lasers, but the concept is the same. I've seen a detailed discussion on how to do what you want in one of those two places.

Gouvernail's advice (see the link in the prior message) is really all you need, but here is a link to another site:
http://www.sail.ie/laserdb/laser_db_repair.htm

PS: don't use nails; in case you have another accident, the leftover nails will chew up your daggerboard well.

 And yes, many of us have run into this problem (including me, several times)

Bondo is a specific brand, and within that brand they do have some various products, but even their low end product works fine for small ding repair / fill out surface imperfections on Laser blades, which obviously aren't sitting in water for days on end
