How do I join the class / register my boat?

I recently purchased a used sunfish and inside the (cockpit) there is a sticker that says "fees paid" or something to that effect. I am curious as to whether or not that means the hull is registered with the class?

What do I need to do to join the "Sunfish gang"?

IIRC that sticker either applied to when the Sunfish became a "international boat" and the builder had to start paying royalties to the governing body, or it might be a state thing.
