Capri Comm. 3/2004
Midwinter’s Results - The Capri 14.2 part of the SCYA Midwinter’s was held on Sunday, Feb. 15 at Lake Mission Viejo. We originally had four boats planning to go, but due to some last minute catastrophes only two, Jones and Rutledge, finally traveled there, plus Jenny Lyons, who crewed for Rurtledge. And at the other end similar problems limited the host fleet to only two, for a total of four. Which was a shame, because it turned out to be a lovely day. Only two long races were sailed. The winds were light and shifty for the first one, but it picked up nicely for the second race, running from a low of about 3 knots up to as much as 8 knots or so. As always, the shifts made for challenging racing, but that’s what this particular sailor likes about LMV. It’s a warm, friendly little club, and as always they served an excellent buffet dinner after racing. Capri 14.2 trophy winners were Randy Tiffany in first place, and Jim Rutledge in second place.
Lake Mission Viejo Spring Invitational - Speaking of LMV, they’re hosting another invitational on Saturday, April 3. Seeing as how MBYC has no racing scheduled for the whole month of April, this would be a good time to go. Hope to see you there.
Capri 14.2 Race Clinic - On Saturday, April 10, Mission Bay Yacht Club will host a race clinic for all Capri 14.2 sailors. A morning session, starting at 9:00, will be a chalk talk covering starts, tactics, and how to get the most out of your Capri. Following lunch, boats will be launched for an on-the-water session. Many starting sequences will be performed, followed by a series of very short races. This clinic is free, and coffee and snacks will be provided in the morning. If you can’t bring your boat, come and we’ll find you a crew spot. To RSVP, e-mail Brian Anderson at [email protected] More details will be in the April fleet newsletter.
Upcoming MBYC Bay Races - Our fleet is scheduled for the following dates in the near term: Feb. 29, Mar. 28, May 2.
Race Committee - It’s that time again. We’re covering Bay Races on March 21. Please call Brian at 858-566-5127 to sign up. Do it soon, please, so he won’t have to scramble around at the last minute. Thanks, Ed.
