Drain Plug

I have picked up an old laser which was given to me.

The drain plug was missing and I see there are different plugs based on the year of the laser.

Does it really matter which one to use or can I just buy one and install it? Any help would be much appreciated before buying one!

If you mean the drain plug in the transom then it will probably be easier and less hassle to purchase a whole new assembly and fit it. all you need it a bit of sealant and about 5 minutes to swap it over. That the old hull fitting with you when you go to get the new one though.

If it is the cockpit drain then you either need to fit a self bailer or just find a suitable bung to close the hole.
