cockpit drain assembly - correct direction

Hi,
What is the correct method to install a replacement brass cockpit drain assembly in a laser?

Q1. Does the "nut" and odd shaped washer go the cockpit side or to the self bailer side/underside of hull?

Q2. What is the proper position of the washer, wide side up, down or otherwise?

It would seem that if the "nut" was to the cockpit side it would be easier to tighten, as there is not much room for a wrench if at the underside of the hull.

I searched the forum but found conflicting answers to my Q1.

Any guidance from your experience would be appreciated. Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan,

The nut goes on the bailer side. I found when I did one on an older hull that there is just about enough room to get a ring spanner or a socket on it when you need to tighten it down.

With regards to the washer I cannot recall off hand but it will become abvious once you put the nut on as the nut needs to sit flat against it.

Make sure you use sealant on both sides too to make sure that are no pesky leaks and don't forget to seal the bailer screw when you put it back on.

Cheers,

Paul
