Centerboard Trunks

I have purchased 5 new lasers over the last 2 years (family racing) and 4 of the 5 have the centerboard trunks fracturing from the boats. This is manifested by stress cracking seen on the bottom of the boat surrounding the trunk. Two of the boats have also shown bulging through the hull where the mast step contacts the hull. Two of the boats have been raced in only two regattas (Orange Bowl & MWE 2013) and have had only two days of practice each. Our racing boat composite specialist says this is not repairable and Laser Performance is balking at replacement! All 4 of the boats that are having issues were manufactured in the USA. The one without an issue was manaufactured in the UK. Has anyone else had these problems in this series of boats and has anyone else had any remedies?

I have experience with bulging through the hull from the mast step. This is common on my boat and almost every other boat at my sailing club. I have a 3 year old UK laser and it has had this ever since I bought it 2 years ago. I have also had another boat with the same bulge. It does not seem like a major issue to me other than the un-smooth look when I turn the boat over for a clean! I don't know how bad your bulging of the hull is, but mine certainly isn't anything to worry about so I hope yours isn't too bad either.
