This is probably trivial.

I just bought my girlfriend a Harken Hexratchet and all the hardware to install it on our sunfish. I was wondering how I should orient the eye strap fore and aft or side to side.

What is typically done?

mine is side to side.... but I've seen 'em both ways, and I can't see an advantage either way. Just be sure to use big washers or a wood backing underneath.

Side to side allows more room for washers as both bolts will be the same distance from the cockpit wall.

That's the best.

Try to get the biggest SS washers to put underneath. Also use Safety Nuts (The ones that have a plastic ring to help stay in place).
