Aluminum Trim

The sunfish I just got did not come with any trim. I am thinking of putting on the aluminum trim but I was wondering if anyone has tried this. Did the edges of the channel buckle as you bent it around the bow and stern? Should I use lots of clamps as I bend it to prevent this? Is it possible to bend it by hand? Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Assuming you have an older SF with flat edges (newer rolled edges do not have trim), check over at Yahoo Sunfish Sailor, the files section has instructions for installing the aluminum trim. Go slow with the installation and when the trim does start to buckle, you squeeze it back down with pliers with taped jaws. Also note that the rivits do not go through both sides, just through the top and into the fiberglass. The bad part of this, you can only get the trim in 5' lengths instead of 10'. Check your local Vanguard dealer to see if they can get the trim, also check online. Good Luck.
