I have a 1979 Sunfish. I have an inspection port already in the usual spot just aft of the mast step. The traveler was recently replaced. I noticed that one of the screws on the port strap eye that holds down the traveler did not screw in very well. So I would like to put some hardwood below it to secure it. In order to do that I need to put another inspection port aft of the cockpit. Where exactly is a good spot? I don't want to cut any of the framing. Also, I really don't want to do this cause I would hate accidentally sitting on this new inspection port and it cracking. Especially if I have more that one person on board. But I don't know any other way. I also don't want the inspection port sticking out too much cause then the tiller will hit it or rub up on it as I steer.
I'd like to know a good exact spot to put it in. Also any tips on making a perfect circle. The inspection port I ordered did not come with a gasket.
I actually took the boat out the other day in 17 mph winds and it held hehe. I really don't want to add an inspection port but I don't know of another way to secure that screw on the port eye strap.
